Listening Party With Conor Oberst -by Alyson Camus

This is not gonna be a review of the album, I haven’t had time to listen to a third of it!

It is a listening party! Hardly a party though, but this is original, probably a clever marketing technique, an invitation to listen to the whole People’s Key album comfortably installed in Conor’s cozy sofa! Everything is there to make you feel at home, the candles, the pillows, the cute dog Shatzi, the turntable and the vinyl collection, the giant screen where the lyrics enfold in front of your eyes.

And you can listen to the whole album, the 49 minutes of it, in company of Conor and his friends Juan Luis Carrera (The Warmers), Andy Lemaster (Now It’s Overhead), Roger L. Lewis (The Good Life, Our Fox), Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes), Clarck Baechle (The Faint), Nik Fackler who seem to chat more than they actually listen.

And there are a few surprises in the video, among them Conor showing his ‘Peacemaker of the year’ diploma, and a proudly framed NY Post article entitled ‘Just a Dylan wannabe’…

And the music? It’s eclectic and at the same time it’s consistent but I would need many more listening parties… oh and there is of course that crazy guy with his new-age non-sense between the songs.
