Listen Up: 4-29-12

1. No Fun – The Sex Pistols – Johnny Rotten was such an overwhelming vocalist that for the seven minutes (on the extended version) as he spits and scats his way through the Stooges classic, you can't help ignoring the rest of the band. But this belongs to Paul Cook and Glen Matlock who find and groove and ride it into the ground. Grade: A+

2.  Oublie Loulou – Charles Aznavour – Speaking of riding, Aznavour takes a verbal hook "oublie/loulou/lalou" for a ride into the  history books. Grade: A+

3. Australia – The Shins – "Give me your hand and let's jump out the window…" I am going to see em tomorrow and have serious doubts… but not about this song. Grade: A-

4. Gorgeous – Kanye West – Terrific sample, but not one of the best off an album that was one classic after another – Grade: A-

5. Asking For Flowers – Kathleen Edwards – Ten years working nights? Who asked her to be a pop star? Grade: A

6. Sea Of Hearttbreak  – Rosanne Cash – Bruce is best vocal in years and years – Grade: A-

7. Jersey Girl – Bruce Springsteen – God forbid he rolls out the Tom Waits classic Wednesday night –  Grade: A+

8. Take your Mama – Scissor Sister – Aha, Elton John loves em because they sound like him – Grade: A-

9. Only If For One Night – Florence + The Machine – Inspired yes of pealing wedding bells – Grade: A-

10. Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) – The Beach Boys – Listen, listen, listen… Grade: A+
