In hospital due to "seizures" on Tuesday March 12th, rapper Lil Wayne, debatably (but not by Drake who claimed it last week) the best in the business, was returned to the ICU on the 13th after a cough syrup (Sizzurp) OD.
TMZ reported Weezy was in a medically induced coma due to violent seizures and last rites have been read while fellow rappers, friends and family are at his bedside and the rapper fails to stabilize.
The flip side finds him (or someone else) tweeting that he is fine.
I dunno, TMZ tend to be pretty good at these things and specially when the action is in L.A., Lil Wayne is at the Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. It was TMZ who broke Michael Jackson's death, also in an L.A. Hospital, 20 minutes before CNN.
Weezy has a penchant for drugs and if he also has a penchant for seizures, that's a pretty deadly combination.
Meanwhile, Billboard is reporting that Mack Maine, the president of Wayne's record company, Young Money, has tweeted "Wayne is alive and well! We watching the Syracuse game…thanks for the prayers and concern..he will update you all soon."
We don't need another hip hop star gone and Weezy obviously needs help, either to fix the seizures or get off the codeine or both. This is a risky bloody business and the end results should be self-evident. On the other hand, part of the rappers gift is drug induced and that's for sure. How can he stop? Will he or won't he. A listen to his early work finds the sense of codeine dislocation as wella s explicit drug references as part and parcel of what stands as his masterpiece Tha Carter II.
As I write he is resting peacefully. Let's hope he has learnt his lesson.
