Marc Scarano of “The Big Take Over” nailed Lauryn Hill to a cross of hubris so thoroughly in his excellent review of her dreadful set in Burlington, Vermont.
Meant to start at 9pm, it didn’t begin till 1145p, and then it sucked in much the same way and for many the same reasons she sucked at the “Rock The Bells” gig this summer. Speeding through terrible rearrangements of the classics, her voice and her sound cacaphonous, like Bob Dylan in the 80s,
But Marc got it better, comparing her to a hip hop Axl Rose. Here is his argument (dumbed down of course)
1. Both their careers got off to a slow start.
2. Followed by hits galore.
3. Followed by an extended retreat from the public eye.
4. Followed by acts of extended eccentricities and hubris.
