Lana Mir’s Debut Album Reviewed: Restraint by Mike Nessing

From the very start of the opening track, “Say You Need Me” off of Lana Mir’s self titled debut record, it’s crystal clear that something unique and original is afoot. Instead of a blatant attempt to get your attention, there is a considerable amount of restraint on display with sparsely arranged backing tracks that seem to suggest that Ms. Mir has more than one trick up her sleeve and is in it for the long haul. This kind of casual, sexy swagger is liberally sprinkled across these eleven tunes just enough to tantalize us into wanting more.
The songs themselves are very good, and they creep into your consciousness gradually. The choruses don’t seem at the outset to be hook-laden, but the overall subtlety on display here combined with Mir’s refreshingly original direction makes your ears perk up to the laid back catchiness of these carefully constructed pop confections.
