Crooked – Kirstin Hirsch – the highly gifted former Throwing Muse is a bit of a snooze
The Way Out – The Books – Strange and bewitching electronic samples wover into an odd and lovely shape. Try it. really.
Lives – David Sartain – Well scultured rock orfinaire
What Lasts – These United States – Instrumentally oddyshape alt rock. Not sure about the blokes voice. It might grow on me… the songs are pretty strong.
Obadiah – Frazey Ford – Suddenly I am writing about singer songwriters all the time. But even by the enormously high qyality of the those around her, songs like “If You Gonna Go” are gonna keep Frazey near the top.
Deadmalls and Nightfalls – Frontier Ruckers – A little dank for my tastes, sorta like Springsteen in folie mode. Lead singer is a touch nasally.
Clandetine Songs – Grand Mal – According to spinner, 15 years these guys have been trying to crack it. They are actually a pretty good straight up rock band, a touch out of time. Just goes to show how important luck is in all this.
Ry Cuming – Some Kind Of Love – Mianstream pop-rock. Credible enough if you like that kinda thing.
Kid Bop 18 – This is really interesting. It’s K-Tel for kids, with youngsters, pretty good youngsters, simplifying and cleaning up mainstream hits for he younger set. May I just say, “Telephone” can survive ANYTHING. I actually prefer their “California Gurl”. Like by a lot.
