Comedian/director Bobcat Goldthwait has confirmed that musical based on the Kinks’ 1976 album ‘Schoolboys in Disgrace’, with Ray Davies as executive producer was in the works, and the songs will be re-recorded by the cast for the film’s soundtrack. The concept album tells the story of a schoolboy who gets himself in trouble and after being punished, turns, later in life, into a hard and bitter character, Mr. Flash.
Earlier this year Goldthwait said on KCRW that it has always been a dream of his to make the album into a movie. He recalled his horrible meeting with Ray Davies evoking in the middle of it the SNL sketch, with dripping sweat Chris Farley in awe in front of Paul McCartney!
He said he gave Ray a copy of his new movie ‘World’s Greatest Dad’, doubting he would watch it but Davies did and agreed to participate in Goldthwait’s project. But what really got Ray Davies sold on the project was Bobcat’s answer to his question ‘Who would you make this movie for?’: ‘I would make this movie for all the kids who fucking hate High School Musical!’
