Hot on the heels of Mike Nessings seminal overview of The Kinks RCA years on this very site, comes news that Ray Davies collaboration with the Crouch End Festival Chorus on choral versions of Kink classics released earlier this year in the UK as Choral Kinks Collection will be performed live in in the US.
The concept of choral performances is, to put it mildly, gruesome and the one song I have heard, “Waterloo Sunset” was a bit in the so what category. Music mag Uncut were less kind: ““Celluloid Heroes” is bearable, but by making “Days” sound like a dreary hymn and adding a funereal backing to “You Really Got Me”, the singer is guilty of self-abuse, if not sacrilege.”
