Kevin Greenspon’s “Open Book”: What We Are Listening To Right This Moment by Mary Magpie and Helen Bach

Mary sez:
Kevin Greenspon’s song “Open Book” is not very pleasing to the ear. The music isn’t too bad, it’s the vocals. What’s with the two people singing in completely different keys? Is this a joke? I certainly hope so. Definitely a cringe-worthy song, it’s worse than amateur and the word mediocre doesn’t even begin to describe this tune.
Helen sez:
Musically its fab. I love it. Vocally… I think its supposed to be awkward. Similar in sound to old Barnes and Barnes (fish heads anyone?) or the Dead Milkmen. I cant help but think this intentionally is done to put forth the nerdy dork kid from Chem lab as the narrator. That uncomfortable teenage loser sound. Which may be why the kid didn’t pick up on it- shes one of them. I’m kidding.
I like it, its fucked up.
