Katy Perry, Sarah McLachlan And Devolution Denied

Taylor proves evolution

The oldest argument and I bet it goes back way further but how about rock and roll teenagers music versus the Great American songbook from the mid-1950s? OK, so that argument, where music is a perpetual state of devolution, never ever ends. I don’t really understand it because, well, because I don’t believe it, but how do you prove this sort of stuff.

Here is one way. Katy Perry is playing a benefit at the Hollywood Bowl this October 23rd and here is the line up: Katy, Sara Bareilles, Ellie Goulding, Tegan And Sara and Kacey Musgraves. I have my problems with Sara but otherwise this is a pretty good line up and before I tell you the point of this article, here is some info about the charity:

“Proceeds from “We Can Survive” will go to support Young Survival Coalition, the premier global organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. October marks National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the annual campaign to bring attention to, and share information on the disease.”

Fair enough, right? Doesn’t help me too much but what the heck.

So let’s now compare the line up to a Lilith fair show from the 1990s. August 24th, 1997 in Vancouver. Sarah McClachlan, Shawn Colvin, Paula Cole, Lisa Loeb and the Indigo Girls. With the exception of Shawn, every name there is brutally bad. The Indigo Girls are just horrid, they give lesbians a bad name while Tegan And Sara broke through last year and are sexy and cool. And don’t even mention Sarah. Look, I wasn’t crazy about “Roar” either but Sarah’s whiny folk crap is unbearable.

I wonder what the poor bastards who went to this concert had done to deserve it? Was it bad karma from a past life. It must have been  a form of hell, sitting through the Indigo Girls to reach Lisa Loeb, it is like is there no exist? Is there no afterlife, is it just these terrible girls complaining forever with their fucking acoustic guitars and crappy high pitched voices?

So, I think I’ve made my point and if you disagree listen to this little Spotify list and weep (or rejoice).
