Just Kids, Just Awards Patti Smith By Hel

Patti Smith has received the U.S. National Book Award for non-fiction for her memoir, Just Kids.
Patti won this award of distinction as well as a check for $10,000.00.  Seems odd doesn’t it to get an award and a payment?  Like an Oscar doesn’t come with a dollar award does it?
Regardless, Congratulations.
To quote Smith to Bloomberg.com
“When I was a clerk at Scribner’s bookstore, I always dreamed of writing a book of my own. When I had to unpack the winners of the National Book Awards and put them on the shelf, I used to wonder what it would feel like to win one.”
Do you think that’s a legit statement?
I’m not sure but I bet the book is pretty cool, that woman’s been through some pretty cool times.
