If youve had ever spent time talking music with Joe Strummer one name was sure to come up.
Every time.
Johnny Cash was a huge influecne on Strummer and for a London punker the American was the king of lawless cool.

If the photograph doesnt squeeze your heart and sum up the love Joe had for Johnny, listen.
Two beautful raspy cigarette trashed throats of a boy, now a man, and his idol, I love this photo for its almoast paternal look.
Strummer had penned a song for Cash, “Long Shadow” whos final line spoken is “…somewhere in my soul…there’s always rock and roll…” Cash never did record it but Joe did, the song was released on “Streetcore” which was released posthumously.
Two greats.
Happy Birthday Johnny.. Let the boy have some cake.
