John D., founder of the growing list of Bamboozle , wishes more people in the music industry would see the event as one that develops artists.
“Bamboozle is never credited for being an artist development festival,” said John D., a.k.a. John D’Esposito. “That’s what bums me out the most about it. A&R kids, all the cool kids, all the hipsters go to Coachella. All the kids that love music and the younger scene … all go to Bamboozle. There’s a difference.
Well yeah there are alot of differences in a world being flooded in festivals. Bamboozle just doesnt seem to get the press of Warped or Coachella and now with SXSW chomping at its heels I’m beginning to wonder whats next for the ‘boozle.
As the Northeast starts thinking about defrosting so do open air venues start firing us up with mega gigs made for sunscreen and tank tops but is it overkill?
Bamboozles ,John D states, “Our smaller stage provides the headliners for the years to come, whether it’s Paramore, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Jonas Brothers. Those are the guys that came from our smaller stages. 30 Seconds to Mars. Brand New. Those are the bands that started off on smaller stages or within the festival family and grew. Each year we try to have one of our own developed headliners and import somebody special to give us a more national, a bigger-picture artist. This year, we brought in Weezer, and on the other day in New Jersey the headliner is Paramore.”
plus twenty plus more bands that get a chance to show their wares..sorta like…
Well sorta like every other festival.
Point of this is chances are really good that a band you love will be there and that they will also be on at least one more festival stage this summer. No longer do bands tour to support a recording they tour to tour and never stop. Life is a highway, don’t get upset if they sell out cuz they’ll be around in about 3 months as the constant tour loop passes over you again.
So Bamboozle wants to be taken seriously and they want you to come. But competition is stiff. I love the idea but I think this could be an over saturated market- either that or the world needs more bands, or we need to do it bigger
Something more like headlining The Black Eyed Peas with 30 tiny bands… cuz Paramore certainly has played out its touring and Weezer would have too if not for a timely bush crash (love you Rivers just sayin…)
