Joe Strummer On the Big Screen -by Alyson Camus

I suppose it was something to expect, after numerous biopics about almost everyone in the music world, from Elvis Presley, to Jim Morrison, Sid Vicious, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Ian Curtis, a biopic about Joe Strummer is in preparation, with the working title ‘Joe Public’, written by Paul Viragh (Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll).

There are already two documentaries about Strummer, ‘Let’s Rock Again!’ and ‘Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten’, but I know biopics have another function. However, they always repeat the same basic storyline, the miserable childhood, the difficult debut, the rise to the top, and finally the fall,… and sometimes the redemption. I am not a fan of biopic, they need to make sense of a lot of things, whereas, life is full of non sense and to paraphrase Bret Easton Ellis who said something similar today on a completely unrelated topic, a film will answer the questions not answered in life.

There is no word yet about who may play Strummer.
