I have been intrigued by these stencils that you can see everywhere in the Hollywood neighborhood lately and it took me a while to realize it was about Joaquin Phoenix’s upcoming film, or more precisely documentary ‘I’m Still Here’, directed by Casey Affleck and to be released on September 10th. So I did a a little research and it turned out that the stencils are Shepard Fairey’s work, one more time.
It is a bizarre way to promote a movie, but everything about it is a little odd, we don’t know for sure if it is a real documentary or a mockumentary, and Affleck is being sued by two women he worked with on the documentary for some serious sexual harassment allegations.
Phoenix disappeared from the cinema circle since his last movie ‘Two lovers’, and the documentary supposedly follows Phoenix in his attempt to flee the Hollywood spotlight in order to have a new career as a rapper/hip hop musician.
So is this an act, a joke? Is he really a rapper?
Last time he appeared on TV in the David Letterman’s show, all bearded and very hairy, he looked he was under the influence of something, and was acting weird, killing each Letterman’s question with a silence,… or was it an act again? Anyway, we’ll know soon.
I wonder what kind of rap he is gonna do, he was very credible as Johnny Cash, but rap?? There is a short video of his rap debut he did in Las Vegas, too bad he fell off stage just after, I hope he is all right:
May be he is pulling an Andy Kaufman?
