Nothing brings out the prurient stupidity of the masses like a good bit of self important loathing of a dead and buried pervert. The jimmy Saville savaging has done nobody much good because the moral of the story, don’t fuck underage groupies, seems lost in the telling.
I had an argument about slavery with a black friend of mine, I claimed slavery in 500 BC is not slavery in 1950s Alabama, and not slavery in 2014 Sudan. He said it is all the same. Obviously, that is nonsense. In 500 BC any concept of slavery being wrong was simply not known, they were innocent of it.
The same is true of child, I mean teenager girls (and to a lesser extent boys) molestation in the 1970s. It just was not seen as a bad thing. Today, looking back at the 70s, at the whole culture the entire
“I can see that you’re fifteen years old

But it’s no hanging matter”
stuff, it just was different, it wasn’t seen the same.
What happened with Jimmy Saville was two different stories convergeing, or maybe it was a continuum of the same story, and the entire UK culture of the 1970s coming under attack, with no context and no sense of the reality of the time and place.
The second story is pretty fucking horrible, Savile in his 60s molesting preteeners sick in hospital, rapin young girls, using his position as a “Jim’ll Fix It” advocate of the young to fuck them. Truly ignored, really repulsive, he deserved to be loathed in death and in life.
But the first half, the 1970s DJsleeping with 14, 15, 16 year old girls, even with the borderline illegaility, was the way busines was done in the 1970s. I had a 15 year old friend whi was sleeping with his 28 year old teacher, nobody thought he ws being harmed. And now stories abound of a 15 year old girl raped by 30 men at the BBC, eventualy comitting suicde. That’s a terrible story, but how do we mean rape? I mean over and above the way any consensual sex between a child and an adult is rape, she wasn’t loked in a room at the BBC and gangbanged.
As a guy who was a teen in the 1970s, I am here to tell you the Church didn’t manage get their teeth digged back deep into necks of teen girls again till the mid-1980s when AIDs gave em the in they wanted. A honest, healthy respect for sexual exploration was the norm and for the mot part I would assume the girls who fucked me or who fucked Jimmy didn’t feel as exploited and terrible as it sounds like today.
The post-Saville Witch trial from the 1970s would find just about everybody ready for a stint in jail: Mick Jagger, Van Morrison (“only 14 -yeah”), Chuck Berry (yeah, they got him but that was just because she w white), Jerry Lee… the list is quite literally from one end of the pop firmament to the other. What Saville did was allow two different parts to his story to become one and the result is much like putting Phillip II of Macedonia on trial for war crimes in 200 BC. You could do it, you’d be right, and then what?
As always when it comes to children and women, everything is sanctimonious bullshit. Saville was a disgrace by the end of his life and should have gone to jail. God forbit it can be left like that.
