Jim Bianco At Rockwood 2, Thursday, January 20th, 2011: LOST -by Woody Fuller

Today’s mission: Be at Rockwood Music Hall 21:00 sharp to catch Jim Bianco.
Now I consider myself a somewhat intelligent dude, and most of the time it takes quite complex situation to confuse me.
This however was an exception.
If you have never been to RockWood, please allow me to explain.. There are three doors on the outside of the building, all with Rock Wood on the door, and I assumed they were all different entrances to the same venue. I was wrong. I decide to enter the middle door first, seemed like a god balance.
I was with my oldest friend Eli from MD, and I was meeting Samantha, whom I had never met before but does PR and works with musicians.
There is a man center stage with a huge grin on face, singing, playing guitars, and laughing with some brass instruments to his left, trombone and trumpet, and a pianist and bassist to his right. But this guy was dead center in the spot light, all eyes on him.
At first I wasn’t sure who I was listening to, but I was instantly intrigued and had no choice but to hang for a while and catch at least one more song..which turned into two.
I had to leave, I still needed to find Samantha and give Jim Bianco a decent listen.
We leave door number 2, and try door number 1, walking into a small, rabbit hole of a bar, I again believe I am in the wrong place. There is a 50 inch plasma TV above the bar with what looked like a band playing. at first glance, I assume it must the the area behind door number 3, hopefully Jim Bianco, however it was a bit fuzzy, so it could have been an old recorded concert. I ask the bartender, and she confirms my original hypothesis. ” Go to door number 3,”  she says. I knew it.

We finally get into the “right” space, in this maze of a venue, even though it is very nice, intimate, and gives great vibes. We find a nice space to post up, look to the stage.. the musicians are striking their equipment down.. greaaat. “We might as well go back to door number two, hopefully we can catch the end of that talented singer guy,” Eli says to me. So we return, I somehow run into Samantha, turns out we were watching Jim Bianco from the get go.. made sense he was great. He announced it was his last song, “Sinners.” Heck yeah! i think to myself, that was the song I listened to earlier online, it was pretty good. I am pumped!

My friends and I are sinners, each and everyone,
I hope we’ll be forgiving for the damage that we done.
If we aren’t forgiving, at least we had our fun,
Heave, ho, the hell we go, look out here we come.

I feel you Jim, I feel you.

Too bad I missed most of his set walking around the Wonderland region of Rockwood, but lucky for me Bianco had residency for the rest of the month, so I’ll be back 1/27 for round two, and so will more songs from his forthcoming LP “Loudmouth” set to drop on April 5th. This time I’ll know which door to go through
