We’re Having Fun Now – Jenny And Johnny – What I like about this album, less thaan half of it, I like lots, but what I don’t is so overwhelming ordinary it is hard to really care too much about. Definitely “Big Wave”, maybe “Slavedriver”. Ot is not that the album lacks consistency, it is that it is consistency whatever. Put it this way: they nail the chorus on “Slavedriver” but it takes forever to get there.
Psychic Chasms Possessed – Neon Indians – Apparently these cats are part of the chillwave movement. I loved their work with Miniature Tigers and plan to def some and probably all of this great new ambient pop orchestrated deluxe edition of their debut album.
Be My Thrill – The Weepies – I always thought the Weepies made Mandy Moore, now I’m thinking Mandy Moore made the weepies. Or maybe they just need each other and should make another album together.
Fasion – Film School – I love this type of music: sorta the pure of heart with a better drummer and fewer melodies
Fretime – Shonen Knife – English translation of their latest album, the Japanese girl trio raved about by Mary Magpie in rock nyc, pop punk perfect. Incidentally, this is all of spinner.com who are having one helluva week.
All Birds Say – Carl Broemel – MMJ guitarist, tasteful, pretty well played, better than Jim Jones Solo excursions. Maybe too tasteful.
Tomorrow Is Alright – Sonny And The Sunsets – The sunset is on the beach and these guys are major pleasures of the lo-fi pop punk on the beach at, er, sunset. And not bad at all.
Devil’s Made A New Friend – Jarrod Gorbel – Folk rock, a little plodding, but tuneful enough and Jarrod can sing.
