"Jejune Stars" is one of my favourite Bright Eyes songs.
Apparently it's become extraodinarily popular because some actor who's on one of those vampire television shows listened to it '10 times a day', and has gotten a bunch of teenyboppers into Bright Eyes. Whatever, it just gets the brilliant Conor Oberst more fans.
Before I even really listened to it, I saw that it had only 6 dislikes and 55,700 views. First off, it's extraordinarily catchy. It also has instant mass-appeal because it has that off-the-beaten path sound that if it were played on the radio, people who were 'fans' of Phoenix (only really their tune "Lisztomania"), along with Neon Trees ("'Animal' is their best song and only I know it") would be able to appreciate it.
As a huge Bright Eyes fan, this song is absolutely beautiful and one of his best. Of course, I think every one of his songs could be consider his best. It sounds a bit different from his older stuff, but if it were a replica it would've been boring. The feel is a little bit less mellow, but then again, the album, The People’s Key has a diverse feel in general.
The tune's been on repeat and the more I listen to it, the more it grows on me. It's absolutely fantastic and a good summer roadtrip track. I'm definitely adding it to all of my playlists.
