Jarvis Cocker Gets The Reason For Amy Winehouse Death Wrong

I am sure you have read the quote by now, but here is Jarvis Cocker blaming the media for Amy Winehouse's death. "Amy Winehouse passed away this year and it was all 'drugs killed Amy Winehouse'. I think that the press killed Amy Winehouse as much as drugs did, because it sends people into that place where they've got no peace, and so they just try to escape. And sometimes you use drugs and drink to do that."

Jarvis reminds me of Morrissey. A loud mouth and sometimes he's right and sometimes he's wrong.

1. Amy wrote "Rehab" before she was that big. She was an addict, she got unlucky, it killed her.

2. Being Princess of Wales is one thing, but Amy absolutely begged for the paparazzi. And even if she didn't, running around London smashed out of your mind in your undies is gonna draw attention whoever you might be.

3. If Amy wanted anonymity there is any number of things she could have done, among them move to nyc where nobody really gives a shit. She spent long holidays in Jamaica, she could go wherever she wanted. What she couldn't do is live in London without paparazzi on her tail. It is sad but not murder.

4. I'll admit the paparazzi can be pretty awful but not the reason why. The problem with the paparazzi (what Jarvis means by the media is beyond me) is that, not unlike a drinking binge, once you've started it won't stop till it's over.

Amy's death was really sad. But Jarvis is an idiot.
