Ah those indie darlings from New York City. I remember in my early days with rocknyc having to hear (and read) about how grand those Vampire Weekend kids were. Oh, and that album cover of the ohhh so mysterious girl in the 80s polo. What? What have they done lately?
Years later from the hepped up ‘Contra’ we sort just dangled our feet waiting for something.. more. Guys who started with a bit of fame from having their song ‘A-Punk’ featured on the amazing BBC program The Inbetweeners haven’t made much impact since.
So again here we are on a Saturday night knee deep in Saturday Night Live. The second to the last show of the season. The Kanye anticipation of next week (which I will miss by the way, cry now I know youre sad- so am I) we ask these pop-indie fellas to help us dance out o the misery this limping sketch show is offering us. Can they? Should they even bother and can their new ‘Modern Vampire’s Of The City’ ever rekindle the spark they first had?
Iman writes: Hot on the heels on my relatively ambivalent review of Modern Vampire’s Of The City, Ezra Koenig lead the boys on a rockabilly dynamic “Diane Young” with his best Elvis Presley impression. Ezra, sporting a limp coif and a hot hip and taking the song from loud down to a whisper again, gave the song everything he damn well needed and has me more than ready for Tuesday when I get the chance to do more then stream the newbie. Right on time indeed!
