The first Rad Omen I received from the music gods was that of a Rad Anthem. A very awesome song, with an even doper music video, featuring Ronald McDonald, Colonel Sanders, Jack-in-the-box, and The Burger KING, parting like rockstars, simultaneously doing blow and strippers, and other ill shit. Ya know? Their CD, “Search Party and Destroy”, ain’t too bad either.
They incorporate a unique mix of electronic, computer generated traditional instruments into their sound, which is combined with very distorted vocals.
“Search Party and Destroy” as well as “Rad Anthem” are very electro sounding jams, using both normal and distorted vocals, which have an eerie effect on the song. These are straight up club bangers, get you going, high octane, bass bumping; we wild’n out tonight songs.
“All the Girls” uses Rad Omen’s actual vocals and gives a good message; frying those “girls who get by on their pretty faces”. Commenting “an empty soul you fill it up with shallow things”. Everyone knows these peoples, they are insecure and need OUR help to stay afloat, our double-takes and constant flattery. But then adding “They might be beautiful, but just can’t see it” at the end. So, in case you didn’t know, being a fake, materialistic, completely dependent bitch is a BAD thing. Moving on..
“More Fire” is a little different from the crowd, a little Beastie Boyesque at first, but with some 2010 dubstep, thumping electro bass-line; A neat twist on white-boy hip hop.
Some of their songs are solely cool instrumental only beats. I like it when bands are comfortable releasing the dopest of dope beats that they conjured up in the studio and sharing that with the world. They are highly influenced by some old school hip/hop, lots of gansta shit, mixed with new crunk jams and even newer bass heavy tunes. If you don’t know, you better know.. BUT WAIT.. who the heck are these guys? Great question, and you probably wont believe me anyway.. First we have Benji Madden, ( previously of Good Charlotte), Simon Rex a.k.a. Dirt Nasty, Peter Dante, ( Dante from Grandma’s boy, he’s in EVERY Adam Sandler movie, you know him for sure) and DJ Troublemaker, ( he gets in mucho trouble.. I like him already). Their entire album is fo free on their website, so when you finish with your daily RockNYC fix, hit them up.
Rad Omen can be summed up with simply this.. they were ” Born out of the mouths of wolves and serpents. Raised up by degenerates and whores in the gutters of your forgotten cities. Among the spawn of your outcast, your rebuked, your lepers. Breaking bread with gangsters, hustlers, real motherfuckers. Scorned by your fearful leaders, and your simple masses. Bearing no marking, no number, no names. Only one sign, the RAD OMEN.
For we are many, for we are many.”
You are right my Rad brethrens, we are many, we are one. Brothers and sisters, under the sun. We all beat to a different drum. We are many, we are one.
