The Stranglers broke up so long ago, and made so little impact here any way, the No More Heroes, early London punk rock, are barely remembered here.
So here the news of a new Hugh Cornwell album and tour is met with shrugs and yawns.
Nit, news he is giving a limited edition 250 albums giveaway to those who buy VIP tix in the UK, suggests a new paradigm for biz as usual.
It is an all covers album (You’re Covered) and Hugh said: “Over the years I’ve heard certain songs which have stayed with me and will suddenly pop up into my head for no apparent reason. They range from ‘things’ that I heard as a kid, to ‘calling your name’, which I only heard a few years ago for the very first time. This selection is by no means comprehensive, but is a cross-section of influences.”Here is the track list:
1) “Things” (Bobby Darin)
2) “She Smiled Sweetly” (Jagger/Richards)
3) “Message To Pretty” (Arthur Lee)
4) “His Latest Flame” (Doc Pumus/Mort Shuman)
5) “The Shrine on the Second Floor” (Heneker/Moore/Norman/Mankowitz/Robbins)
6) “Just A Little Too Much” (Johnny Burnette)
7) “Take A Message To Mary” (Felice and Boudleaux Bryant)
8) “Hear Me Calling Your Name” (Jack Bruce)
9) “Full Moon and Empty Arms” (Mossman/Kaye/Rachmaninoff)
10) “The Way Young Lovers Do” (Van Morrison)
If there is a scarier thought than Hugh singing “The Way Young Lovers Do” it has something to do with the nuclear meltdown in Japan.
