June 5th is the annual Hip Hop meeting of all things, er, hip hop, the June 5th Summer Jam. I used to go all the time and have seen some great sets (and many, many, crap ones) but stopped when they moved it to Sundays.
Now those wise guys where hip hip lives, radio station Hit 97, who produce Summer Jam, are petitioning the State of New Jersey (it happens at Giants Stadium) to rename the Meadowlands Distric 97: "
Due to the amount of people HOT 97 brings into the New Meadowlands Stadium we would like to petition the government to create our own district of Hip-Hop. What is a district? The U.S Government considers a district to be a locality marked by a distinguished feature, in this case, Summer Jam!!!"
This year the show features Lil Wayne, Drake, Wiz Khalifa, Chris brown and others.
