Holy Ghost! just released the first single off their eagerly await debut album dropping in April.
Alex Frankel and Nicholas Millhiser, the genius behind the Ghost, used vocals from Doobie brothers and Steely Dan member, Micheal McDonald. An addition that greatly compliments Holy Ghost!’s mix of vintage 80’s synth and modern blending techniques throughout the album.
With the slight Ghosts Busters flare at the beginning of “Do it Again”, the single introduces listeners to exactly what kind of sound the Holy Ghost duo is trying to reveal in their new abum.
There is a David Bowie influence with those vocals sort of like Empire of the Sun in a way. I just see flat tops, tacky glasses, and bright Reeboks when I listen to this single. Using this song commercially in Urban Outfitters or strolling happily down city streets with a boombox is how I imagine one can fully enjoy this song.
It’s different and I’m glad electronic is exploring alternative means of creating music. While I have to admit I love getting slapped in the face with heart pounding bass, Holy Ghost! kills it with this single, and in all of their other songs, actually. It’s vintage, unique, and you can always tell the Holy Ghost! signature, which is what all artists strive for.
I began listening to Holy Ghost! through the song “I Will Come Back” and I can’t wait for the full release of their self titled alum in April. “Do It Again” can be freely downloaded off of the Holy Ghost! website, (http://www.holyghostnyc.com/doitagain/).
You’ve got to love artists that let you freely expore their sound. Thank you Alex and Nicholas! ☺
