Heroic Serge Gainsborg by Alyson Camus

Something that should excite his fans, a biopic about Serge Gainsbourg was released at the beginning of this year in Europe: ‘Gainsbourg (Vie Héroïque)’, Un conte de Joann Sfar or Gainsbourg, (Heroic life), A tale by Joann Sfar.
You can view the trailer on this French blog:

I haven’t seen the movie, but Eric Elmosnino (Gainsbourg as adult) gives a pretty good impersonation of the famous French provocateur watching this trailer.
Sfar, who is a comic book writer, has said he has exaggerated Gainsbourg’s life, but the results have angered Jane Birkin (Charlotte’s mother), who has declared the film should be followed by a disclaimer it is a sort of a ‘folk tale’ and not a biography.

The weirdest thing about this movie is that Sfar wanted to cast Charlotte as her father, an offer she refused. I guessed she would have needed a lot of more make-up than Eric Elmosnino.

The film has only been screened in some festivals in the US.
