Here's Your Big Chance: City Parks Foundations Summerstage Want YOUR APP

When I read a tweet from Summerstage sunday about a big annoucement coming up Monday I just assumed we were finally gonna find out who was what. So far only two things seem probaly: Shuggie Otis and People get ready might be playing.

But that wasn't it!

Instead the City Parks Foundation is providing an excellent opportunity for wouldbe sofware makers to use all their powers on a Summerstage 2013 app. what i like about this idea, rather then farming it out to the big boys, is that it provides people without huge IT companies behind them to have the opportunity to be really creative and to be seen by people in power ad have their APP viewed and used by. really, if Summerstage choose you, it is a potentially career changer.

Here is the info:

"HackSummerStage App Challenge

SummerStage, NYC's Largest Free Performing Arts Festival

Challenges Software Developers to Create the 2013 Festival App

Presented by City Parks Foundation and ChallengePost with Digital Data Support by UPlanMe

New York, NY — With over 100 performances in 17 parks throughout all 5 boroughs, City Parks Foundation's SummerStage performing arts festival is now challenging software developers to create an app that engages its 280,000+ fans from New York City and around the world.

From finding information on an upcoming show to mapping out the easiest way to get to a venue and much more, SummerStage is seeking to enhance festival-goers' experience with an app that will help fans get the most out of their time at SummerStage.

Software applications will be judged on the following criteria:

Quality of the Idea  – elements       of creativity and originality specifically applied to SummerStage

  • User Experience – including design, ease of use and visual       appeal
  • Impact – potential impact on the festival experience of       SummerStage attendees

Apps that creatively utilize both the SummerStage application programming interface (API) and other provided APIs and reflect the fact that SummerStage extends to 16 parks beyond Central Park, will be judged higher.

SummerStage, a program of City Parks Foundation, presents performances of outstanding artistic quality, free of charge, to serve the diverse communities of New York City. The artists represent a breadth of genres and cultures and perform in an outdoor setting accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. SummerStage strives to develop audiences' deepening appreciation for contemporary, traditional, and emerging artists as well as the communities in which these artists originate.

Kinda priceless stuff, right? Well, except for the money of course.

I really like the guys at Summerstage. They have been very kind to rock nyc and some of the best shows I see year in and year out are due to the auspices of the City Park Foundation. Last years arlo guthrie set at Summerstage cut the one laterin the year at Carnegie Hall and just the chance to see Paolo Szot at such close quarters was a thrill. So I kinda like em and kind trust them and think this is a great idea!
