Still light out and barely 8 o’clock, and some high intense dance music was coming full force our way.
Hercules and Love Affair, mid band between Holy Ghost and Hot Chip, warmed the audience on a humid evening at Summer Stage. They are kind of old school, with each of the two DJs using actual turn tables, but still new school since all of their dance music is computer generated.
I started out not really digging them too much. Maybe it was the rest of the crowd not being into it, maybe it was my long day of work, or perhaps just my mind racing at 1,000,000 per hour trying to come up with the most plausible reason to initiate a conversation with the hot blonde wearing the fedora behind me. Regardless, I finally spoke to her and her equally attractive friend, I mean..
Regardless, As Hercules set progressed I started to enjoy them more and more. Unfortunately the crowd was still really dead; not really dancing at all.
By 3rd song, music and entire demeanor of set started to pick up a bit, and if it weren’t for the fact that I was in the reserved section of bleachers, (nice bc show was soo packed and sold out) I would have been as close to front as possible and would have found a skilled dance partner to groove with. Also I was with Iman, and he’s old, and we all know old people are no fun (Editor’s Note: Woody, go your room).
By 4th song I was starting to see a pretty consistent flow of hands in the air. Herc and the Love defiantly nailed their 45 min set; Started off slow but finished uber strong.. That’s what she said. (man I crack myself up).
Main female vocalist named Noni was GREAT. A very little lady, 5 ft nothing, but was fucking fantastic, could have been 6’4″ they way she carried herself on that stage. She rocked some sweet polka dot pants too.
Their eclectic crew of dancer/singers were quite the entertaining bunch.
Two cross dressing singers who could really belt it, busting mad moves in an ill attempt to get crowd moving, they were fierce yo. And two more dancers playing off others, danced non stop the entire set. Props.
And finally, by the very last song of their set, it’s evident that the crowd was ready to lace up their dancing shoes and boogie..
Lucky for Hot Chip
