Helen Bach Wants To Be Amanda Palmer

OK if I cant be Chrissie Hynde can I please be Amanda Palmer?

Palmer sold $15,000 of music and merch from her Bandcamp page in just three minutes on Tuesday. Within a day, according to a post at Bandcamp, she had sold 4,000 digital EPs and had sold out of most high-end packages.

‘Bandcamp is a San Francisco-based start up providing artists a simple platform for selling digital and physical music through unique artist pages.’

Ms Palmer has no label. As a Dresden Doll she was on Roadrunner and although I have been giving bands the business about being all “labeless”, in Amanda’s case, shes better off.

With die hard fans amazing marketing skills and outstanding diligence and intelligence she is a DIY dream. My adoration for her is showing rather strongly but again I want to be her so that goes without saying.

So she offers up her ukulele cover music of Radiohead covers at a starting cost of .84 cents and makes $15k

Think about it.

Bandcamp on the other hand is pretty much what was written about here earlier- the big name record companies could be losing the force as bands with a few wires and some time on their hands manage promote and record themselves.

But lets not kid ourselves, without some longevity a bankroll and some proper business sense the chances of mega stardom are pretty slim. The odds of earning a standard living though does exist and most ‘unemployed starving artists’ have the time to social media themselves into household names.

I like Bandcamp, I checked out their website and it made me wish I had talent.

YAY! Amanda!!
