Hear Ye: What rock nyc Is Listening To 2-12-13

1. Your Painted Smile – Bryan Ferry – I was really surprised to discover Ferry's 1996 masterpiece Mamouna is not available on digital. Indeed, a chunk of his best albums are not around on digital. I saw Ferry in concert pushing this album and I have never seen him better and I have seen him a great deal. This is a glamorous thing of haunted beauty (and it is digitalized on the More Than This hits album) – Grade: A

2. Highway Don't Care – Tim McGraw – Steve Crawford is quite right, there is no excuse for this song to exist. It is abominable and if Taylor owes Tim for "Tim McGraw" consider the debt paid in full – Grade: F

3. Over My Head – Fleetwood Mac – Love the fade in – Grade: A+

4. You Make Loving Fun – Fleetwood Mac – Alright, enough is enough: Buckingham, get McVie back, whatever it takes – Grade: A+

5. Bassline Junkies – Beez And Honey – Turn the bass up… is there a better request on earth? – Grade: A_

6. Too Many Devils – The Bronx – This is another awesome song from The Bronx. They just played locally and now I'm kicking myself for missing em! – Grade: A

7. This Note's For You – Neil Young And The Bluetones – Man, Neil tells em all off. A pity the song is a woofer, the grade is for sentimental reasons – Grade: B+

8. Myrrh – Wayne Shorter – That soprano sax is entirely captivating. He is like trying to hold a conversation with a girl in a language you don't understand – Grade: A-

9. Today's The Day – Goldenboy – Lovely folk rock, sort of gentle but sturdy – Grade: B+

10. Dig A Hole – William Beckett – Plays a nice guitar – Grade: B
