1. Tug Of War – Paul McCartney – Lost in the midst of time, and never rolled out even when Macca is looking for something to change up in his show and despite it appearing on Wingspan, there is a real tug to the song, a sweet sadness – A-

2. Closer – Tegan And Sara – One of the best tracks of 2013 has the sort of programmed beats you can’t imagine the Indigo Girls ever providing – A

3. Swingin’ Party – Lorde – The best line: “If being afraid is a crime we hang side by side …” – A

4. XO – Beyonce – One of the sweetest sexiest songs you could wish to hear – A

5. Speed Of Sign – Margot Macdonald – I can’t help buy fee; in another time and place, this would be a hige hit – A

6. New Slaves – Kanye West – Best song on the newbie – A

7. Take The Night Off/When I Was An Eagle/You Know/Breathe Live – Laura Marling – I get the feeling, just from people who’ve had dealings with her, she might not be all that nice. Like I care – A+

8. Blood On The Leaves – Kanye West – Equating a lynching with a lost love – A

9. Won’t Be Long Now – Linda Thompson – Great ending to a terrific album – A

10. The Back Seat Of My Car – Paul And Linda McCartney – The way his voice up to a falsetto is how Macca takes what he learnt from Little Richard and puts it to other uses: unbearably tender and loving it tugs so hard at your heart, not least because Linda is gone and the kids are grown up… except, I wonder if he sings it to Beatrice? – A+
