Hear Ye On Spotify: what rock nyc is listening to 11-4-13

one world

1. Galang – M.I.A. – I would claim it was a highlight of Friday’s gig but so was everything else, instead I’ll claim it is the only the second song with the words “London Calling” in them that’s a masterpiece – A

2. Street Hassle – Lou Reed – Is this his greatest song? I’ll still go with “Rock Minuet” but we can debate it – A+

3. The Hard Stuff – John Mendelssohn –  The melody seems to be chasing its own tail and the multi-dubbed vocals give the horror story an inner sorrow. Uneasy listening – A-

4. Story Of My Life – One Direction – Oh great, 1D grow up, just what we needed – C

5. The Monster – Eminem, Rihanna – Rihanna sounds like  Alicia on “Empire Stae Of Mind” – C

6. World Town – M.I.A. – This is what they should be singing instead of “Kumbaya” – A

7. Born In Ontario – Neil Young & Crazy Horse – From last years best album in decades – A-

8. Take A Fall From Me – James Blake – RZA’s haunted rap and Blake just haunted – B+

9. Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me – Morrissey – Best song title ever – B

10. Brandenburg Gate – Lou Reed And Metallica – Small town girl in worlds of trouble – A
