Hear Ye On Spotify: what rock nyc is listening to 10-22-13

Local lads Caveman make good

1. In The City – Caveman – Haunted mood indie with a baritone lead singer and fairly good songs, they sound like an early version of the National and should do well – B

2. Pendulum – Pearl Jam – Born to be a singalong, the “easy come, easy go” chorus brought down Barclay Center last week – B+

3. Too Many Friends – Placebo –  “My computer thinks I’m gay…”  Er? Suicide solutions, boys? – C

4. Appreciate – Paul McCartney – Sir Paul goes House? Well, the beats sure sound programmed – B

5. This Could Take A Lifetime – Maria Taylor – Off her last album, another beauty in a career of them, the horn break is arrestingly sweet – B+

6. Hold On – Margot Macdonald – Margot can write songs, she does here and with a full band – B+

7. Waltz (Better Than Fine) – Fiona Apple – Piano based song lives right up to its name! – A-

8. Sweeter Than Fiction – Taylor Swift – A pop bauble with superb production – A-

9. Run To The Wild – The Bongs – Where did Barone get those licks from? This is classic UK explosion rock and pop – A-

10 Slow Down – The Jam – Watching the Drowners the other day brought the opening riffs on this awesome cover – A+
