I’ve been a fan and a friend of Jahn Xavier since the 1970s, when I adored his neo-soul band The Nitecaps and thrilled to that amazing baritone of his, that thunders with feeling like Solomon Burke. Jahn sounded so good in 1982, and if you don’t believe me Go To The Line is available on Spotify and it is as superb as you remember.
But he is better in 2013.
On June 29th, the eagerly and I do mean EAGERLY awaited Jahn Xavier And The Bowerytones debut album, the magically named Yes, You will be released. I have heard only a couple of tracks off it, and they weren’t mastered, but man this is gonna blow you the hell out the water. Unless they’ve completely botched it somewhere, this will be among my top five albums of 2013. “I Still Yearn” alone is out there waiting for you… just wait, trust me, JUST WAIT!
Meanwhile, the Bowerytones are playing an 11pm gig at Arlene’s Grocery and Jahn promises a long set celebrating his birthday, drummer Charle’s Roth’s birthday and the release of the new album. I’ve been trying to catch the Bowerytones since Jahn’s Bowery Electric gig and to make this I will have to leave Bruno Mars gig at Barclay Center early but I could care less. Jahn writes: “Come join us for the escape – um, release, of Jahn Xavier & The Bowerytones debut album “Yes, You”.It’s my birthday, and Charles Roth’s birthday as well. The folks at Arlene’s have been nice enough to carve out a long slot for us, so there will be guests, fun covers, and much unintentional hilarity.Ten bucks. Cheap at twice the price!”
