Hannukah Gone Metal: No Gelt, No Glory by Todd Leibowitz

Hanukkah Gone Metal is the Jews (like myself) answer to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Ha-ha!

This pure metal album of 8 great songs, for 8 crazy Hanukkah nights is great. These guys have a progressive-metal feel to their music. You can tell their influences are a bit of Iron Maiden, Dio, Dream Theater, Queensryche and a bit of Rush.

They do tell the story of Hanukkah in their lyrics – serious, with a bit of comedy thrown in for good measure.

My favorite is the song titled “The Quest For The Latke Oil”.

These guys are a local band from New York City, that is probably why they have the theatrical feel to their music.

They even have role playing theater like names:

Prometheus (Vocals)
DJ Blood Sacrifice (7 String Guitars, Keyboards)
Saucy Jack (6 String Guitars)
Helios (Drums)
Evil Thunder (Bass)

I would love to  see “Evil Thunder” written on his Bar Mitzvah certificate.

Song listing:
1. Eight Days of Victory
2. Oh Hanukkah
3. No Gelt, No Glory
4. The Quest For The Latke Oil
5. Spin For The Blood Of Our Elders
6. Hanukkah Gone Metal

If they would play in the NYC/LI area, I would love to see them. (Hint hint…just in-case anyone is reading this).

Enjoy and Happy Hanukkah to all my people out there!!
