I have no idea who the Gowns are, er, were, but what I like about this taken off Pitchfork is Tom Breihan’s excellent writing. When I say I don’t like modern rock journalism I mean I don’t like people who can’t write this well:
“A few years ago, I accidentally stumbled into a CMJ show by the raw-nerved California drone-folk trio Gowns. 20 minutes later, I had to peel little pieces of my brain off the Cake Shop back wall and stuff them back into my head.
Though Gowns never found much of an audience during their five-year existence, they were one of the most jaw-dropping live bands on the American DIY underground circuit. On Friday, frontwoman Erika Anderson announced the band’s breakup on her blog. If you never saw them live, commence to kicking yourself.”
