The energy in Chas “Chooky’ Derr’s studio was fun and laid back the night before the show at Rock & Roll hotel. I had the pleasure of meeting Fasil and Chas, the Pinky and Brain taking over the musical world, in their creative element. The zealous duo create a punk influenced hip-hop sound with live drums and pre-recorded tracks from a computer. Chas possesses the brains behind the tracks by layering beats through his impressive recording software. From the keyboard to the drums Chas maintains the fines and technicalities behind the pair’s impressive tracks.
Fasil illustrates the energy behind the music. From his fashion and singing style to his slightly more punk guitar skills he adds a great alternative aspect to this duo. He allowed the room to taste his lyrical genius by means of singing layered with interchangeable rapping. He sharpened his guitar skills and took some time in the recording booth; my first time present to the recording process. I was very impressed by how relaxed the two were before their performance. However the day of the show I was able to stop by and the atmosphere was very focused. Fasil and Chas perfected certain pieces of songs and polished drum solos; only to transform into Fuzzy G and Chooky and deliver a perfect performance later that night. More from show to come
