One of my favorite new acts, Future People, will be headlining Fontana’s in the LES this Thursday, January 6th. If you haven’t heard of them, expect that to change; Future People plays a blend of electric and traditional instruments to create an infectious and atmospheric electro-pop that is alternately upbeat and ominous. Songs are built on the backs of funk and hip-hop-inspired beats that will get you bobbing your head and moving your feet and feature thoughtful, effects-laden vocals that are sung, chanted, and occasionally rapped. The result is a unique and awesome thing, the kind of music that you listen to on repeat because you can’t get enough.
As of now, the only place to hear Future People is in the flesh, so head to Fontana’s to catch them at 11PM on Thursday. Waty gets things started at 8PM, followed by Barefoot Walking and Spirit Animal. Tickets are only 7 bucks. Tell your friends, it’s going to be a fun night. I’ll have a show write-up for the weekend.
