Fuse Reaches Out To Rock NYC by Iman Lababedi

When I am not a mild mannered editor of a music blog, I am a rough and tumble media buyer so of course I have tons of friends at cablevision but it was our senior editorHelen Bach who was contacted to discuss the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame with Fuse (owned by Cablevision) last night.
Why?
Because she is the coolest chick on Earth.
But what amazes me is that despite my loving so many of the people at Cablevision, they were cool enough to track us down. I mean, the Dolans haven’t been able to find a basketball in ten years, how the hell they found we happy few is beyond me.
But people do find us.
With all due immodesty, folks reach out to us all day long in numbers I never heard from in my first go round as a music journalist. What you get here is not Pitchfork or Stone, we aren’t that. We are snotty, small, opinion driven wiseguys. We’re like Creem in the eighties. Ten people who for love of rock put our lives on hold to write morning, noon and night.
Helen and I spend our lives on this. Perfectionists like Brett spends days on a post, we’ve taken Nessing howling into the 21st century. I don’t know if Mike would still say he doesn’t listen to modern music any more but if he did he’d be lieing.
Todd, a long time friend of mine, has been a revelation to me and Bobby Scioritno rounds out the heart of writers who spend their time doing this.
Well, except for Mary Magpie. .Sometimes I forget she is only thirteen years old. Mary is my fave writer out of our crew. I think she’s a genius, And any dreams I have of rock nyc being a long term proposition lie with her. I think it’s mary who gives us an edge. We have a real teen writing for us and we have all her freshness and enthuisiasm.

I don’t really watch music on TV, I listen to music from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep and i read and watch politics and sports on TV to relax so I am not really aware of the Fuse (except their rates which I won’t share!!). I go to clubs and concerts when I’m not doing that. But I will watch Fuse now. Any Cable Network who can track us down is a friend to me.
In a coupla years we will probably go pro -right now we average 250 hits a day – when we quadruple that I’ll think of selling advertising. But for right now it isn’t worth going from blogging to siteing  for a coupla hundred bucks amonth . I prefer the freedom of not answering to advertisers unless I can make (and share with my writers) real coin.
I would love to get a transcribtion of my friend and sister talking to Fuse but till then let me quote Helen:
“WOOT”
