Full albums in Concert

So that bands playing full albums groove. Have we had enough of it yet? Didja read where X are performing Los Angeles, the Cure recently performed their first 3 albums back to back to back, Echo And the Bunnymen performed Heaven Up Here, the Buzzcocks Another Music in A Different Kitchen

I became enamored of the concept when  the Who performing Quadrophenia in 1996, with Billy Idol as the Bellboy (Sting portrayed him in the movie, Keith Moon sang it on the album). Earlier that year Pete Townsend played a solo set (you heard me!) at the tiny Supper Club and practised tracks from the album on us. All in all entirely satisfactory.

But since then, except for Pet Sounds, i can't remenber seeing any other album run through.

The entire concept is all a little Doolittle -how consistent is the album? How important is a live performance in the grand scehe, of things: what can be added by hearing crap deep tracks off really good albums?

Here are some albums, some of these folks are dead, I would love to hear performed live

Eric Clapton – 461 Ocean Boulevard – His greatest solo work is neither blues not electric.

Frank Sinatra – In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning – With Nelson Riddle conducting of course, in a tiny room like the Hiro. Very intimate.

Kanye West – My Dark Twisted Fantasy – But he would have to add all the good ass TGIF stuff as well.

Louis Armstrong – The Complete Boston Symphony Hall Concert -November 1947 On May 17, 1947,  featuring trombonist Jack Teagarden, clarinetist Barney Bigard, pianist Dick Cary, and bassist Arvell Shaw, cornetist Bobby Hackett,  bassist Bob Haggart, and Big Sid Catlett on drums. This is just an unbelievable concert, and the birth of his All Star Band.  My idea of heaven is to be at this concert.

Marvin Gaye – Sexual Healing  – Of course he has done better albums, but this is classic disco shit. Maybe he can open with Here, My Dear. All of it.

Michael Jackson – Off The Wall/Thriller – really, do you need anything else? You know and love every track

Sam Cooke – Live At the Copacobana – No not the harlem Square one. I wanna see Sam the pop artist

The Small Faces – The A And B Sides –  RIP Steve Marriott, this would be a terrific return. Some of it might be too psychedelic to return precisely, but much of it is Mod anthems worth of the Who.

The Who – Meaty, Beaty, Big And Bouncy – But I mean the WHO, with Moon and Entwhistle. And I don't want a 20 minute "Sparks" -I want a three minute "A Legal Matter".
