I’m in the process of overdosing on Cee Lo’s highly infectious new song ‘Fuck You’. Sometimes, and that would be great if we could say this of any song, music comes from deep inside, like a primal desire or a visceral craving: he lost his girl and he is mad after the guy who took her, and he is mad at her too.
‘I pitty the fool that falls in love with you (oh shit she’s a gold digger)’
He sure needs to scream it, but Cee Lo tells his frustration with such O’ Jays-Jackie Wilson-60’s soul revival, it’s much better than a regular scream, it’s a series of joyous jumps, a thousand of happy palpitations and you connect right away without a second of delay.
No many listens needed there, and you know instantaneously it’s gonna be a hit, and probably a big one.
But wait, he says about 10,000 times fuck you in this song, as Iman said, it can’t possibly get on radio and TV !
According to Cee Lo Green website, there was a first play of the clean version of ‘F**K You’, Saturday night on Trevor Nelson’s Radio 1 show (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/). How can you do a clean version of this song? It is called ‘Fuck you’, and if they replace it by anything else it will lose a lot of its triumphant and feel good appeal.
The song will presumably appear on Cee-Lo’s forthcoming solo LP, ‘Lady Killer’.
