The Front Bottoms released a music video for their song, “Backflip”, and it’s absolutely perfect.  Not only are Brian and Mat in it, but the video also has Chris Gethard, Kevin Devine, and Sal Vulcano (comedian, musician, actor).  It’s full of strange scenarios, including, uh…murder?

The boys are playin’ around on a trampoline, giddy and goofy, when all the sudden, Kevin Devine goes flying and is impaled… There are cartoony faces of ‘uh oh’. Now as morbid as this sounds, friends plotting to kill another and making it look like an accident is made humorous ala-“Heathers”.  It’s brilliantly done and their facial expressions just make it absolutely impossible not to laugh at the pseudo-tragedy.

I adore the obvious and terrible acting when all of the remaining survivors are sitting around eating pizza, and Gethard has a big button that says “I have a peanut allergy”- this is where he meets his fate.  He’s the last to die, of anaphalactic shock.

The tune, second to last on the band’s most recent release, “Talon of the Hawk”, is fantastic.  It has the definitive sound of Brian Sella’s sharp and addictive voice, and incredible lyricism.  “I see a tattoo on my right thigh that I will probably regret one day.  But now, I am happy to be bonding in a kitchen with my friends.  A spool of thread, a few more good vibes, a safety pin, and a ball point pen.”  He’s always so honest and that’s something I really admire about the band, cos they’re not afraid to sing about anything.  “And now I am talking way too fast and a little bit louder than I should, trying to say thank you for understanding my side of the story the best that you could.”

This is definitely my new favorite video of theirs; it’s so silly and whimsical, and really is an accurate representation of the band’s personality.  It’s adorable.
