I can't even count how many times I've told somebody that I'm a vegan and they go off on a tangent saying how I "don't get enough protein" or receive "far too little calcium, so your bones will break all the time".
It's things like that that make me want to pull my hair out.
Time to debunk those myths.
Myth #1: Vegans and vegetarians don't get enough protein.
First of all, in order to be protein deficient, you have to be calorie deficient. Everything you eat has at least some protein in it. Therefore, the only way to not get enough protein is to not eat. Also, humans weren't built to eat meat. Only over time have we developed our canine teeth. In addition, if we were supposed to eat meat, we wouldn't have to cook it! You don't see lions throwing an antelope on the grill after they kill it. We get sick from raw meat because it's unnatural.
Here are some sources of protein that don't harm any animal: beans, walnuts, peanuts, peanut butter, dark greens, soymilk, almond milk, tofu, soy meat, soy yogurts, all fruits, all vegetables…everything you eat!
So before you say that you "couldn't be a vegetarian because you couldn't get enough protein", that just means you did it wrong. The only way to be a vegan or vegetarian and not get enough protein is if you don't have a clue what you're doing or what you're talking about.
Myth #2: Vegans' bones break often because since they don't consume dairy, their bones are brittle.
Humans are not supposed to drink any type of animal's milk You don't see any other mammal in the wild drinking another animal's milk; it's unnatural.
Cow's milk contains too much calcium for our bodies, which ups our fat and since it has so many growth hormones in it from the mass production, it's ridiculously unhealthy for us. It may claim to give you 100% of your day's calcium, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hold a disgusting amount of sugar, hormones, bacteria, puss and blood and other things that the human body isn't meant to have in it.
Countless vegetables and fruits contain plenty of calcium- the perfect amount that humans need to get through the day. By consuming dairy products from a young age, the body becomes dependent on the far too much calcium, which ends up causing health problems in the future. By not having any dairy products, however, or eliminating them from your diet, you are preventing the build up of hormones, fat, and bacteria in your body.
So there you go.
