One of the oddest things about Elvis Costello's career is how loathe he has been to release live albums. There is the El Mocambo which started life as a radio program and moved to bootleg world before being part of the deluxe My Aim Is true. And there was the Hollywood Highs album from 1980, which started as a couple of tracks on an EP (archaic term) given away with Armed Forces some 30 years ago and released in the complete form in 2010. Otherwise, besides a couple of specialty hits, nada.
Till now.
Costello is releasing a very limited live album:The Return of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook [Super Deluxe Edition] [1 CD + 1 DVD + 10" Vinyl EP] [Box set] . I reviewed the concert when it hit New York and I have seen him this good in decades. But the price is a mindboggling $251. November 21st is the release date.
If I could afford it, I'd probably go the bucks.
Here is what you aget according to the Costello fanclub.
