The music will always remain.
His mother will die eventually, and perhaps Smith’s family will be ready to discuss his life and death. ready to deal with his story, whatever the ramifications might be.
Chiba will grow old and in time might want to reconsider her actions and what constitutes the right and the wrong thing to do or have done.
And his peers might get to wondering if perhaps silence was the best they could have done for him.
And the music lives on and on and on.
And then in time, when we have passed and the music has remained, science might be able to take a sample off the knife and recreate every moment of that day. Like a sci-fi movie, they might see clearly all those things we are blint to
