Has Rock NYC given up at trying to get to the bottom of the mystery of Elliott Smith’s death.
I don’t know where else to go, I don’t know what else there is left to say.
Elliott died seven years ago.
For three reasons nobody wants to pursue the case. His family because his step-father abused him, the LAPD because they blew the investigation and his girlfriend because nothing good could possibly come to her from it.
And his peers-everybody I’ve spoken to will only speak to me off the record. I don’t know why some of the names who have had doubts, the Evan Dando’s of the world, won’t go on the record.
Maybe they’ve all made the same trip Rock NYC has to… nowhere.
Smith’s death is a quantum mystery, it’s a light trick. Depending where the light hits October 21st you wind a different image of reality and behind that image is Elliott Smith in all his ragged glory: heroin in his veins and music in his blood.
In the end, Elliott is responsible for the life he lived.
And I don’t know where we go from here.
