The Elliott Smith Mystery Continued: Jennifer Chiba’s Stunningly Inappropriate Myspace by Alyson Camus

In act of extraordinary bad taste, Jennifer Chiba, under suspicion for years in the death of Elliott Smith, has a myspace account (set to private) whose symbol is a woman holding a dagger.

It is under the name melpomene:

and this is what wikipedia says about melpomene:
“Melpomène (Greek Μελπομένη, English: /mɛlˈpɒmɪniː/; “to sing” or “the one that is melodious”)initially the Muse of Singing, she then became the Muse of Tragedy, for which she is best known now. Her name was derived from the Greek verb melpô or melpomai meaning “to celebrate with dance and song.” She is often represented with a tragic mask and wearing the cothurnus, boots traditionally worn by tragic actors. Often, she also holds a knife or club in one hand and the tragic mask in the other.”

The choice of this name is clearly a connection to Elliott’s death. It is beyond inappropriate,  it is a sneer in the face of justice (iman’s note: I added the last line).
