Elle King At Mercury Lounge, Tuesday, February 31st, 2011 Reviewed

I wasn't gonna write about Ed Sheeran's opening act Elle King because, to be brutally honest, I didn't much like her. Though Elle possess a pretty good set of pipes and has a nice edge to her vocals, her songs are a not entirely untypical girl singer songwriter of the 21st century.

With an on stage veneer that would be a lot better if she didn't seem to spend her time veering between bitter fat girl and over compensating thin one, her on stage banter was really begin to irritate me.

But I wasn't gonna write about her because, well, because I don't wanna be mean to a singer who is kinda not such a big thing right this minute.

I changed my mind around the two thirds mark. King dropped her guitar, picked up her banjo and got quite nice. Her good humor got the better of me and her self evident penultimate moment"Good to be A Man" was only beaten by her  ultimate moment, a  hip hop singalong song about having her pussy sucked.

So, rough going at first, but by the end Elle was King with me.
