Elfman in Wonderland- By Helen Bach

The man who belted out the anthem “I Love Little Girls”, with his band Oingo Boingo is drawing in the little girls now.
As composer of the sound track for the new film Alice in Wonderland, Danny Elfman has created a beautiful instrumental romp down through the looking glass.

“Alice’s Theme”, is a beautiful and hypnotic intro. Haunting chant with amazing strings. The children’s choir adds an almost sinister sound. I think these are the Pink Floyd kids, or grand kids. Full orchestra gets me every time.

“Drink Me”, has a fairy like quality. “Going to Battle” a deep almost bullying tone.

Are you with me yet? This is the actual soundtrack to Alice In Wonderland. Not the pop star sing along after swag.

This symphonic, beautifully produced orchestral delight is also available, if you’re so inclined. I am not generally a fan of ‘back ground’ music but this is so powerful that I’m actually loving this more than the boys of alt version will also cover. Apparently I can have more mature tastes and Elfman is not attractive in the slightest, so take that.

I have not yet seen the film (but will be in just a couple hours) yet this soundtrack is painting the most amazing musical pictures. There has been a tremendous amount of hype for Alice, yet this 51:09 minutes of musical score has been overshadowed by boys in skinny jeans. I’m guilty of riding along on that but if this soundtrack isn’t a beautiful auditory adventure to you, at least you’ll have an alternate.
