What a retro sound, is it another side of Mr. E.? Another of his universes?
Remember the hairy wolf looking for fresh blood? And the heartbroken and emotional guy lamenting how things were beautiful and free at the beginning? There is a third incarnation coming up on August 24th and this one seems happy, all rejuvenated, blooming again just like the purple tree on the cover of the album. ‘Tomorrow morning’ will be the final installment of a trilogy, which already consists of ‘Hombre lobo’ (2009) and ‘End Times’ (2010).
The 14 track ‘Tomorrow morning’ will even be released with a bonus 4 track EP, and this is sure a lot of songs!
‘Looking up’, the 11th track of ‘Tomorrow Morning’ is offered for free download at:
The song is a pure Gospel tune, with constant hand clapping and tambourine, and wait, a choir, with his own voice? Then a screaming voice, but could it be a scream of liberation, of joy?
It is not usual in Mr. E’s somber bluesy world, but this track vibrates like a renewed faith in life. The keyboard, the tambourine and the apparent low-key recording combined with straightforward lyrics ‘Used to be kind of bitter/Always had a baby sitter/But I’m feeling much fitter/Now I’m pretty sweet’ celebrate life and its possibilities using the simplest means. This is the end of the old times, he is looking up to a brighter future and has put all his hope in tomorrow morning.
‘Back on my feet/walking down on the street’ he sings at one point of the song, … Well, the last track of ‘End Times’ was precisely ‘On my feet’, but at that time he was only saying ‘One sweet day I’ll be back on my feet’. It certainly seems to be the case these days.
